Bridge Pose

Sanskrit- Setu Bandha Sarvangasana or Bridge Pose

Pose spotlight – Bridge 

Bridge pose- lay on your back with legs bent and souls of feet planted on mat. Bring your heels close enough to your sit bones that your finger tips can brush your heels. Lift hips toward ceiling engaging your quads. 

Variations- 
1 roll shoulders under your torso and clasp hands together 
2 lift right leg toward ceiling and then lift your hips toward sky 
3 place a block under your sacrum, resting your sacrum on top of the hips 

Benefits- strengthens legs, hip, thighs and opens the chest. It improves posture and counter acts the effects of sitting at a computer desk all day working. It helps calm the mind and energize the body. It’s a great pose to start with for working into backbends. You can practice this pose restoratively or as a strengthen building pose.
